Ryan carries a broad commercial practice with a principal focus on franchising. For his franchisor clients, Ryan provides advice for all stages of development on matters relating to the maintenance and expansion of franchise systems, and regularly drafts and prepares franchise agreements, disclosure documents, and ancillary agreements for use across Canada’s ever-changing regulatory landscape.
Ryan also advises franchisors on strategic issues related to the default and termination of franchise relationships and has expertise in preparing notices of default and termination, managing the termination process, and providing related litigation support. Beyond franchising, Ryan advises retailers and other businesses on a variety of commercial and other licensing matters, such as drafting and negotiating manufacturing agreements, supply agreements, and service agreements, in addition to providing advice on consumer protection issues, advertising, and marketing and promotions.
Ryan completed his JD at Queen’s University Faculty of Law and graduated with honours from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts in political science.
