As an associate in Osler’s Emerging and High Growth Companies group, Ian brings a unique technical background to significant business transactions. With dual expertise in engineering and law, he offers startups and established companies alike a partner who understands both the technical and legal dimensions of complex deals.

Ian has advised on numerous transactions across the tech sector – including BOXX Insurance’s acquisition of Templarbit and Cuboh in its acquisition by ChowNow – helping founders and executives navigate their most important business milestones. His transactional experience includes transformative mandates for clients ranging from emerging startups to growth-stage and mature businesses.

For growth-stage companies seeking capital, Ian guides founders through critical fundraising stages, having recently shepherded Aspect Biosystems through its significant $115-million Series B funding round and CheckSammy through its US$45 million financing round. Startups also value his practical counsel on day-to-day corporate matters that keep their businesses on solid legal footing.

Before law school, Ian applied his mining engineering degree from UBC in the field, driving process improvements at a Nevada gold mine – giving him firsthand insight into the operational realities his clients face.
