Ian Morrison

Ian is an associate in Osler's Emerging and High Growth Companies group. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, venture financing and other corporate transactions for private and public companies. He also regularly advises private startup and technology companies on day-to-day corporate matters.

Ian’s experience on complex M&A transactions within the technology sector includes advising BOXX Insurance during its acquisition of Templarbit, Foodee during its acquisition by Sodexo, Beanworks during its acquisition by Quadient, 7Geese during its acquisition by Paycor and Coastal Genomics during its acquisition by Yourgene Health. Within the mining industry, Ian has experience advising, among others, Rio Tinto during the sale of its Roughrider Project to Uranium Energy, Kinross during its acquisition of Great Bear Resources and Maverix Metals during its royalty portfolio acquisition from Pan American Silver.

Ian also frequently advises clients involved in financing transactions, particularly in the private technology company space, as well as angel, strategic and venture capital investors that fund such companies. He has advised, among others, Autozen during its seed financing, Ionomr Innovations during its Series A financing and Lucent Biosciences during its investment round. In addition, he routinely advises private companies on their day-to-day corporate matters.

Ian has a background in technology in the mining industry, having worked on process improvement initiatives at a gold mine in Nevada prior to law school. He obtained both his Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Applied Science in Mining Engineering at the University of British Columbia.
