Austin is an associate in the Regulatory, Indigenous and Environmental Group of our Calgary office. His practice focuses on regulatory, Indigenous, and environmental aspects of major projects, including oil and gas, mining, power generation, and electricity transmission and distribution, as well as regulatory proceedings for setting rates and tariffs, and compliance and enforcement matters. Austin previously represented and advised clients on public and private mergers and acquisitions, real estate, and various corporate-commercial matters.

Prior to joining Osler:
- Montana First Nation, in its acquisition of the 22.5 MW solar power project (known as the Killarney Lake Solar Project) from Aura Power Renewables Ltd., including related purchase financing transactions.
- Undisclosed renewable project developer, lead counsel in negotiating, drafting, and executing an Engineering, Procurement and Construction Agreement for a new substation for a 216 MW Alberta solar project.
- Various renewable project developers, in negotiating, drafting and executing options to lease and options to purchase in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
- Various renewable project developers, in applications and hearings before the Saskatchewan Farmland Security Board.
- Various utilities, in tariff proceedings and enforcement actions before the Alberta Utilities Commission.
- Various electricity market participants, in Market Surveillance Administrator and Alberta Electric System Operator compliance and enforcement matters.
- International medical device company, in defence of a product liability action before the Alberta Court of King’s Bench.
- Cenovus Energy Inc., in its C$420 million sale of its Husky Retail Fuels Network, consisting of 337 gas stations, to Parkland Corporation and Federated Co-operatives Limited
