Osler is proud to announce the addition of 17 new partners and two new counsel across our offices in Toronto, Montréal, Calgary, Ottawa and Vancouver, effective March 1, 2022.

New partners

Toronto

The Toronto office welcomed five new partners: Justin Dharamdial (Emerging and High Growth Companies), Arlene Mack (Banking and Financial Services), Gary Marshall (Emerging and High Growth Companies), David Rosenblat (Insolvency and Restructuring) and Kai Sheffield (Corporate).

Justin’s practice focuses on the representation of companies at all stages, as well as the venture capital firms, growth equity and private equity funds that finance them, and the strategic acquirers who buy them. Justin has a wide range of experience with mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities, corporate governance and general corporate matters.

Arlene has a broad practice focusing on mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financings, corporate finance and securities, public offerings, corporate reorganizations and general corporate and commercial matters for a diverse group of clients, ranging from emerging and high growth companies to publicly-traded corporations.

Gary represents emerging growth companies at all stages, as well as the venture capital firms, strategic investors and investment banks that finance those companies. In addition to providing strategic counsel, he advises entrepreneurs and investors on corporate formation, equity incentives, convertible note and preferred share financings, securities law compliance, corporate governance, public offerings and mergers and acquisitions.

David’s focus is on corporate and commercial law, primarily in the areas of corporate restructuring, bankruptcy, debtor/creditor law and secured transactions. He has experience representing debtor corporations, lenders and court officers in complex national and cross-border restructurings and insolvencies.

Kai’s practice focuses on public and private mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities and general corporate matters.

Montréal

Our Montréal office introduced five new partners: Sophie Amyot (Corporate), Mikulas Arendas (Banking and Financial Services), Jessica Harding (Litigation), Matthew Oliver (Corporate) and Frédéric Plamondon (Litigation).

Sophie practises in corporate law with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and commercial matters. She works with emerging companies at all stages of their growth, advising them on a wide variety of corporate matters, including financing, corporate reorganizations, governance and commercial matters.

Mikulas is involved in many areas of corporate and securities law. He has experience acting for public and private companies and industry leaders in a range of sectors, including construction, financial services, infrastructure, mergers and acquisitions, public and private partnerships, and real estate.

Jessica’s practice focuses on civil and commercial litigation, in particular consumer class actions, product liability litigation, arbitration and international private law.

Matthew’s focus is on corporate and securities law, particularly cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and private equity fund formation. He has experience acting for private and public issuers, financial institutions and investment funds, as well as industry leaders in a range of sectors, including natural resources, real estate and technology.

Frédéric has broad litigation expertise with a strong focus on white-collar defence and class action matters. He advises predominantly corporate clients, public issuers, market participants and institutions in a wide range of investigations and enforcement proceedings involving various regulators and public bodies, as well as in competition and securities class actions across various industries.

Calgary

The Calgary office welcomed three new partners: Michael Grantmyre (Emerging and High Growth Companies), Jessica Kennedy (Litigation) and Emily Paplawski (Litigation).

Michael’s practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities law in the technology sector. He advises both technology companies and a wide range of investors in connection with a variety of transactions, including acquisitions and divestitures, venture capital, growth equity and private equity financings, recapitalizations, joint ventures and strategic alliances.

Jessica's focus is on regulatory law as it pertains to resource development, transmission and electricity market regulation. She regularly advises clients on regulatory implications for their businesses and assists clients with negotiating agreements with Indigenous groups and obtaining regulatory approvals for large scale projects.

Emily practices corporate and commercial litigation and arbitration with a focus on restructuring and corporate bankruptcy and insolvency law. She also has significant experience in both domestic and international arbitrations in relation to disputes arising from oil sands joint ventures and other complex commercial arrangements.

Ottawa

Our Ottawa office has added two new partners: Tim Mitchell (Research) and Kelly O’Ferrall (Employment and Labour).

Tim’s practice focuses on legal research as an expert service to resolve complex legal issues in all practice areas.

Kelly’s focus is on helping local and international clients identify and implement strategies to mitigate workplace-related legal risks. She provides tailored advice to clients on best practices for developing and maintaining workplace policies and for complying with employment standards, human rights, workplace safety, and employee privacy laws.

Vancouver

The Vancouver office welcomes two new partners: Jacques Du Plessis (Emerging and High Growth Companies) and Emily MacKinnon (Litigation).

Jacques has a general corporate commercial practice with an emphasis on matters relating to corporate finance and securities regulation, mergers and acquisitions, technology and corporate governance.

Emily’s practice includes high-level commercial disputes as well as constitutional and public law matters. She excels in matters involving complex statutory and contractual schemes.

New counsel

Osler is also proud to announce the admission of Toronto-based associate Malcolm Aboud (Litigation) and Vancouver-based associate Manveer Bisla (Emerging and High Growth Companies) to the role of counsel, effective March 1, 2022.

Malcolm's practice encompasses a broad range of civil litigation matters in the corporate and commercial areas. He provides advice on a broad array of issues, including anti-corruption compliance, fraud, sanctions compliance, anti-money laundering and terrorist financing.

Manveer’s focus is on corporate and securities law, particularly corporate finance, including private placements and debt offerings, corporate governance, private mergers and acquisitions, share reorganizations, and restructuring. He regularly advises on start-up and incorporation matters, as well as employment, professional services and consulting, distribution, representation, reseller and other forms of commercial contracts.
