Asked about the favourite part of her job, Lia Bruschetta is unequivocal: “While I consider myself a fierce advocate,” she says, “my favourite part of my job goes beyond the demands of my caseload. I am passionate about the people and community around me, and I work to find the time to support them.” A partner in the Litigation Group at Osler, Lia has been a regular duty counsel volunteer with Pro Bono Ontario’s Law Help Centres and was recently named to the PBO Honour Roll for her volunteer contributions to the Free Legal Advice Hotline. She discusses these contributions in a feature interview in the fall 2023 issue of Advocacy Matters, a regular publication of The Advocates’ Society.
In her conversation with Mana Khami, Lia offers insight into a range of topics — from her pet peeve and proudest moment, to her go-to local restaurant and favourite quote of all time (“just keep swimming”!). Notably, she also highlights the importance of work-life balance, her commitment to ensuring access to justice for self-represented litigants in Ontario and the role she plays championing Osler’s participation in PBO programs.
