Montréal-based newspaper Les Affaires recently released its rankings for the 2024 “Les grands du droit” — or “Legal Leaders” — and the results were not “catastrophic,” despite a year marked by economic slowdown. In fact, as journalist Philippe Jean Poirier discusses in his article summarizing the rankings, the majority of large firms reported moderate growth in the size of their workforce. In particular, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP was one of five firms that grew by more than 5%; through 2023, the firm’s headcount at the Montréal office increased by 8%.
In the article, Sandra Abitan, Osler’s Montréal Managing Partner, acknowledges that 2023 “was a great year for almost all major offices” and notes that “taking a larger share of the Québec market is part of our strategy.” She goes on to explain that one way of achieving this growth is through lateral recruitment, as demonstrated by Christian Jacques and Jean-Nicolas Delage recently leaving another prominent firm to join the Emerging and High Growth Companies Group in our Montréal office.
