Emily Wang

Emily is an associate in the Tax group. Emily advises on a wide range of tax controversy and planning matters, including on complex tax appeals and on international taxation and resource taxation issues.

She has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada and has assisted on matters at all levels of court, including the Tax Court of Canada, Federal Court of Appeal, Supreme Court of Canada, Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, and Alberta Court of King’s Bench.

Prior to joining the tax group, Emily clerked for the Honourable Justice Kasirer at the Supreme Court of Canada and for the justices of the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

In addition to her tax practice, Emily has an active pro bono practice, through which she has worked on a variety of constitutional, criminal, and public law matters. She was named to the Pro Bono Ontario honour roll for 2023.

Emily graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 2019. During law school, she acted as a Research Assistant for Professors Kim Brooks and Elaine Craig, in the areas of tax law and sexual assault law. She completed her articles at the firm, with rotations in the Tax, Research, Disputes, Corporate, and Financial Services (Regulatory) groups.

  • Canada v. Power: Represented the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association as an intervener at the Supreme Court of Canada in appeal concerning Charter damages
