Osler is proud to be named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers (2017) for the second straight year. This prestigious award helps underline how much our commitment to diversity and inclusion makes us stronger and contributes to our positioning as one of Canada’s pre-eminent law firms. Being named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers also exemplifies our continued desire to create and maintain an exceptional and diverse workplace. We respect that each individual is unique, and we recognize, welcome and celebrate these individual differences. Our legal professionals and administrative staff are chosen from among the best and brightest regardless of gender, race, culture, nationality, ethnic origin, colour, creed, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, family status or disability. The firm provides equal opportunities to all legal professionals and staff when it comes to compensation, promotion, transfers, and employment conditions.
For the past 10 years, Canada’s Best Diversity Employers competition (a category within Canada’s Top 100 Employers project) has been recognizing employers across the country that “are leaders in creating an inclusive environment where individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds are recognized and valued for who they are at work,” according to Canada’s Top 100 website, and that have exceptional workplace diversity and inclusiveness programs. Osler was recognized for a myriad of internal and external diversity initiatives such as our Legal Professional Resources Groups. These groups have been put in place to help promote the continuous growth of diversity within the firm and include the Osler Pride Network, Osler Women Lawyers Network and the Asia-Pacific Affinity Network.
The competition recognizes successful diversity initiatives in a variety of areas, including programs for employees from five groups: (a) Women; (b) Members of visible minorities; (c) Persons with disabilities; (d) Aboriginal peoples; and (e) Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered/Transsexual (LGBT) peoples. Employers are compared to one another in their respective fields/specialty areas to determine which of them offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs for their employees.
To further demonstrate our commitment to diversity, we have released our inaugural Diversity at Osler: 2016 Year in Review report [PDF]. This report highlights all of our diversity initiatives — internally, within the community and within the legal industry — that are actively being supported at Osler.
